New America Media is the country’s first and largest national collaboration and advocate of 2000 ethnic news organizations. Over 57 million ethnic adults connect to each other, to home countries and to America through 3000+ ethnic media, the fastest growing sector of American journalism. NAM is dedicated to bringing traditionally marginalized voices–those of ethnic minorities, immigrants, youth, and elders–into the national media-powered discourse.  Holding those voices as our central tenet, NAM’s goal is to build an inclusive journalism and communications for our increasingly diverse and fragmented global community in the U.S. and overseas.

Khabar is a monthly variety magazine for the Indian American community in and around Georgia. Started in 1992, it is now a full color, glossy features magazine with a distribution/circulation of 27,000 copies. Khabar has won several awards from the magazine industry association of the Southeast for its thought provoking and entertaining articles. The Atlanta magazine listed it as the Best Community publication in its annual “Best of Atlanta” issue.

Our varied content ranges from leisure and entertainment to thoughtful topics on themes such as assimilation, identity, culture, roots and more that matter to the Indian diaspora. The magazine caters to a wide spectrum of the community—from new immigrants to those of the second and third generation.

Besides the compelling broader content, Khabar focuses on the local community with a comprehensive Events Calendar, an in-depth Around Town coverage, and Spotlight profiles of key people in the community. With our strong focus on the Indian community of Atlanta, it is an indispensible part of the growing community. More than 100 community organizations use it as the primary means to communicate their events and happenings. Our articles and editorials hold an effective mirror to the community, so that readers see themselves—often literally—in the magazine.

Besides Indian-Americans, Khabar also reaches other South Asian immigrants in the area who share many common aspects such as language, culture and consumer needs.

Our primary distribution is through a FREE mailing subscription (currently 17,000 copies). In addition to the mailing, the magazine is also available for free pickup at close to a hundred retail locations all over metro Atlanta (Indian restaurants, grocery stores, clothing stores, temples, etc.) We also send out a weekly email broadcast of upcoming community events and announcements to over 7000 email recipients.
